No matter the type of printer you have, eventually you will need to change the toner cartridge. Though universally dreaded, the task is quite simple. To prepare retrieve new toner; black and white printers only need black toner, but color capable printers also receive cyan, magenta, and yellow toner. Be sure to check which toner needs replacing when working with color capable printers.
Now that you have your toner, let’s get started:
1. Open the front panel cover and remove empty toner.
2. Place empty toner onto a scrap sheet or newspaper to prevent spillage.
3. Shake the new toner cartridge 7-8 times with the cap facing up.
4. Remove cap and insert new toner ensuring that the arrow on the label is facing up.
5. Once the new toner is locked in place, close the front panel cover.
Repeat this process for each toner cartridge replaced. Once the new toner cartridge cap is removed, place it on the empty cartridge to prevent leakage and safely dispose.
How to know when toner is empty?
An empty toner alert will appear on the printers Smart Operation Panel. The message will specify which colors need replacing if the printer is color capable.
What to do if the toner spills?
Don’t panic! Wipe the spilt toner with a damp cloth, use dabbing technique to prevent it from spreading. Do not use a vacuum on split toner as it could lead to combustion. Toner spillage can be avoided; do not turn cartridges upside down and remember to set empty toner cartridges onto scrap paper or newspaper.
In the following situations, please provide first aid and consult a doctor:
- If you inhale toner, gargle with water and move to a space with fresh air.
- If you swallow/ingest toner, drink water to dilute the solution in your stomach.
- If toner gets in your eyes, rinse thoroughly with lots of water.
